Join us for this sake course that explores a variety of sake types and characteristics. The WSET Level 1 Award in Sake is a focused introduction to sake for students with no experience. You will be able to study different sake serving methods, participate in hands-on sake tastings, and network with other students in the sake industry.


We are now offering a HYBRID WSET L1 Award in Sake. Students may choose to take the course in person or online.

What is a Hybrid Class?

Our hybrid courses allow for the student to chose to take the course in person OR online. Those taking the hybrid course will all receive live instruction from your educator(s) at the same time. There is a minimum requirement of 5 students attend IN-PERSON. If the minimum is not met, the course will become an online-only class and the in person course will not take place. WSET Level 1 Award in Sake

This course is designed to provide a sound but simple introduction to sake. The WSET Level 1 Award in Sake qualification will assist those who need a basic familiarity with the main styles and categories of sake. Students will leave the course with hands-on sake knowledge gained from in-class sake tastings.

  • Must be age 21 or over to register and take the exam.
  • Photo ID is required for participation in the exam.
  • Registration will close when the course reaches capacity or the enrollment deadline (February 28, 2022) has passed. Please be advised, late registration may incur additional charges for textbook rush order shipment fees.
  • Online students will receive ZOOM information after registration.
  • HYBRID classes will need a minimum of 5 students to attend IN-PERSON. If the minimum is not met, the course will become an online-only class.

The exam is a closed-book, 1-hour exam, comprised of 30 multiple-choice questions. More exam information will be available during the course. Candidates that pass will receive a certificate and lapel from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust.

In-person Exam:

March 21, 2022 6:00pm ET

Those taking the course in person will receive a paper exam on the same day of the course.

Online Exam:

March 22, 2022 11:00am PT | 2:00pm ET

Those taking the course online will receive an ONLINE exam the day AFTER the course – you MUST have two devices with cameras to qualify for this option.
